Raise your hand if you sent out a hand written thank you note for your graduation. What about a wedding thank you note written by your own lovely hand?
Most of us will say yes.
Because those are really big milestones in your life. Plus, people are usually very generous to you during those monumental moments. You wanted to properly show your gratitude to these folks, so you drop them a thank you note.
When is the last time you sat down with a pen and note card or piece of stationary and wrote a thank you note to someone? Then went old school and addressed it, put a stamp on it and dropped it in the snail mail?
I must admit, it’s been a long time for me. I used to write them quite often but then life got really busy and I haven’t made it priority.
However, lately I have been reintroduced to just how important writing thank you notes frequently really is.
3 Reasons You Should Start Writing Thank You Notes Today
1. Thank You Notes Makes People in Your Life feel loved and appreciated.
The more I go through life the more I realize the people that surround you aren’t just a big part of your life, they are your life.
The people you hang around is who you become. Do you recall the phrase, “Show me your friends and I’ll show you your future?” Don’t you want to be sure and do your part to help make those around you feel valued and loved?
What better way to spread the love and make someone feel special than a hand written thank you note. Words written genuinely from your heart will make their day. Your thoughts will bring a smile to their face and lift their spirits.
2. Thank You Notes Build Your Relationships.
A couple of years ago I bought a cute little phone case from Nordstrom. I think it was like $27, not a big purchase by any stretch. The sales associate that helped me find the case and complete my transaction was very nice. Her friendliness left a good feeling with me about the store.
But do you know why I think Nordstrom is one of the classiest top notch stores out there? Well, besides free shipping on purchases and returns of course. 🙂 It’s because a few days after my small cell phone purchase, the sales associate sent me a hand written thank you note. Inside she wrote how great it was too meet me and help me find my cell phone case, and how if I ever needed anything to please contact her and let her know.
I was shocked and pleasantly surprised. I mean, I can understand if I walked in with an Amex and dropped 2,000 G’s on a wardrobe. But such a kind thank you note for a purchase under $30?
That’s why I always have good things to say about Nordstrom. When I go into the store I get a great feeling like they are going to take care of me. Almost like we are, well, Friends.
That little story shows you just how important a simple hand written thank you note is. Not just for a business or sales tactic, but to build a relationship. It takes your friendship to another level. The receiving person thinks:
“Wow, she took time out of her busy schedule to physically sit down, write out and send her gratitude on paper. I liked her before and she seems friendly, but now I feel like she gets me. She’s going to take care of me. We must be friends.”
3. Thank You Notes Lift Your Spirits and Keep You Focused on Being Grateful, All the Time.
Think about it. Sit down twice a week or every day and focus on all the people you are thankful to. Then begin to take inventory of all the things you are thankful for. If you are consistently writing your heartfelt thanks down in your own expressive way, you will consistently have a mindset of gratefulness.
It will change your outlook on life. From a state of “I don’t have enough” to, “look at all the awesome people and things in my life.”
Here are a some super cute thank you notes I picked up at Target. These are adorable and a little different than the standard blah “Thank You” notes. I like that they sound like something I would say to a friend!
I know what you are thinking. That’s great Kristen, but my handwriting is like a toddler hyped up on kool aid and kit-kats! It’s true, if you are penmanship challenged like me. Hand written thank you notes can be daunting.
Don’t worry girl. I got you!
