Hi, I’m Kristen. A wife, mommy and creative heart from Texas.
Being in love with Jesus is all I’ve ever known. Everything I do is rooted in Christ. He truly is my greatest joy!
My life’s mission, a part from serving my family well, is to truly make a difference in this life. My heart is to encourage and inspire through writing, music, and teaching God’s word in a relatable way. My prayer is that somehow, some way by the grace of God that my story or something I write inspires you to hope again. To dream again and to turn your heart towards Jesus.
One thing you will find is that I don’t have it all together. I don’t have all the answers. But just like you I am striving to seek the one who holds them! I have overcome a lot of insecurities in my life. There have been times of struggle, and times of triumph. But I’m learning that no matter what twists and turns life brings, God remains faithful and He can truly be trusted.
Join along this journey as we navigate life together. Let’s be inspired together, cry together and definitely laugh together.
I was born into the world in 1984, the same year Prince released Purple Rain, Ghostbusters, and Footloose was released. I know, what an epic year! My Dad was in Sales and my Mom was a hair stylist. Thanks to Mom, I’ve always had great hair.
I grew up in church and came to know Jesus at a very young age, 4 or 5 I believe. I was baptized several times just to be sure it stuck. 🙂
I remember leading my Cabbage Patch doll to Jesus sitting in my bedroom floor with Mom. I’ve served God my whole life and I’m so thankful for the Godly heritage my grandparents and parents have modeled before me. My Mom has always been my biggest fan, best friend and mentor. And I’ve always been Daddy’s little girl.
Life wouldn’t have been the same without my two older brothers. I learned early on how to fight and take up for myself. When I was a toddler, they would take my toys and I would go bang my head on the tile floor out of frustration. The doctor said when it hurt bad enough, it would stop. So I did. I know, this explains everything!
No one tormented me more. No one took care of me more, or loved me more than my big bros.
My later elementary and middle school years were not easy. I struggled with my weight and was made fun of quite a bit. Kids can be mean, and boy were they. I remember trying out for the cheer leading squad and getting made fun of when I did jumps. This lead to insecurity and tampering with eating disorders when I was a teenager.
One major outlet for me to channel hurts and dealing with hard times was writing. As far back as I can remember I enjoyed putting pen to paper. In 2nd grade I wrote a literary masterpiece entitled, “Penny the Princess Poodling Pig.” Complete with illustrations. My mom thought it was genius. Thank you Mom. I kept a journal, or diary as I called it to express my feelings most of my childhood. When I had a hard time dealing with life, I would pray and write. God always spoke to me and showed his love to me through the flow of words on a page.
My Love Story
I love a good love story, and ours is my favorite! Welby and I grew up in the same church. In fact our brothers played baseball together and we went to the same youth group. He is a few years older than me so I was never really on his radar, until I turned 17.
We went on a missions trip and I suppose he saw something in me. A friendship developed into more and before we knew it, he popped the question at a restaurant with two of our best friends recording it.
A year later in 2003, I married my best friend at the young age of 19.
He is my rock and has shown me selfless love like I never thought I would experience. We laugh together every day, and he is so much fun to be around. He is also the best father, who loves our kids with everything he is. Welby is the strongest leader I know and has this incredible gift to develop others around him. He is a man of God and a man of integrity and character. My life is better because of him.
Somehow God saw it fit to bless us with two of the brightest, sweetest kids. My first baby was a girl and made me a mommy in 2010. Our son came on the scene in 2014, and brought his sweet personality and great hair. I enjoy being a Mom so much. It’s so true that the days are long but the years are short. So, I’m trying to soak up every moment I can with these two tiny humans. I am enjoying every stage we guide them through!
Welby and I have been in full time youth ministry now for 14 years. We have served at several different churches on staff. Each position and the people we have been privileged to know have taught us so much. For the past 5 years we have served on staff as Youth Pastors at Real Life Church. Hints the blog name 🙂 I can’t even say enough good things about the church and the top notch leadership of our Senior Pastors Steve and Marti. Seriously, they are some of the most genuine examples of Christ on earth. And I thank God for the privilege for my family to serve a long side them.
Besides working with teenagers, I also serve on the worship team at Real Life Church. My love for worship runs deep and goes way back. I sang my first solo in church when I was 13. And started leading worship at the age of 16. The Pastors that God placed in my life at a young age saw something in me. And thank the Lord they entrusted me with a mic! As a teenager I got involved with a program called Fine Arts. This is really where I discovered my love of music and singing in the church.
At 16 I was honored to receive a national award of merit and college scholarship for my female vocal performance. Fine Arts is still near and dear to me and to this day I evaluate other aspiring vocalists at the festival. I love cheering teenagers on and helping them find their voice as I once did. My most recent musical endeavor is learning to play the guitar and write worship songs.
I am passionate about encouraging the body of Christ through writing and worship music. I have been singing my whole life and leading worship for over 15 years.
In ministry, there have been many triumphs and we’ve had our fair share of struggles. But I’ve learned to truly settle into my own skin and try to learn and grow in every season.
More than You Ever Wanted to Know 🙂
Now, let me introduce myself. The real me.
I drink water, and lots of it. Starbucks of choice is a Grande, 2 pump Cinnamon Dolce, extra hot. Basically sugar with a touch of coffee.(In case you would ever like to bless me with some liquid gold:).
I try to eat healthy most days to keep the weight struggle in check. And go for a walk to exercise when it’s not raining, or cold, or too hot. Some say I have a dry quick wit. But I mostly tell them, “That’s not punny.” Please don’t unsubscribe, I won’t ever say that again…probably.
Those that know me best have witnessed that my filter comes off at about 10:00 pm. At this time, my arsenal of funnies spills out and my main goal is to make those around me roll on the floor laughing. It has happened several times. True Story. Bottom line, I truly love to laugh and make others laugh!
Thanks so much for taking the time to read my story. I would love to share all my latest news with you! Sign up here.
